Mikati Sustainable Design
About
History
MSD is the sustainable furniture design practice of Jihad Mikati, an architect-turned-furniture designer, whose experiences in creating the built environment on a large scale revealed the opportunity of making furniture, products, and environments that are responsibly created and beneficial to the environment. This coupled with a sculptural modern aesthetic and a curious obsession with craftsmanship are the backbone of MSD’s history.
Philosophy
Within the intent of modern day design and fabrication there lies a need to transform the use of resources and product toxicity through design; to view product design as part of a larger system. MSD is dedicated to investigating and producing furniture designs on the following four point philosophy: to create objects pleasing to the senses, built with craftsmanship, that embody low toxicity, and that provide a closed loop attitude. It is our intent to produce pieces that provide sustainability and simplicity without sacrificing sophistication and the warmth of a well crafted object.
